The Side Track

I have been waiting, waiting, waiting for my winter stock of tees, bodysuits and hoodies to be released from customs. Super frustrating and the whole saga has dragged on, YET it has given me time to work on my part of the winter line - the sewing!

Although today I looked around and realised that I have been so busy sewing, but where are all my winter samples to show for it! No no no, I've been on the Side Track.

I've been having fun (god forbid!) sewing things that don't belong to the Winter Line, playing with fabrics, making cute little one offs, but its naughty and now I feel bad, like I'm 'cheating' on the winter range.

But look what I made, the cutest little skirt for a first birthday party this weekend. Now back I go to behaving myself and making what I should - I did make 5 samples today though, so my brownie points are on the rise - must be photo shoot time soon!

Inspiring Winter 2012

I feel like I'm always a season behind.
Its hard this 'designing' thing, having to come up with all the ideas, create prints, create patterns, test patterns, buy material, make the stock.... cook, clean, wipe grubby faces, race cars down a ramp, change nappies... I often get asked where I find the time to do this with a 2.5 and a 1 year old.
And I think that is why I am so behind.

Slowly but surely I am maybe catching up with myself, I started designing the winter line 2 weeks into the new year and now my stock is bought, the blanks and my material have been ordered and are on their way, the prints have been finalised and I have tested all my patterns.

Ideally I would like to launch all my new goodies at the start of March, but I just don't think thats going to happen, but am prepared for an early start to next year. Its weird you know, designing winter stuff in the high 20 degree sunny hot never ending summer. Already mid-Feb I notice no one is keen to buy summer clothes, and yet summer feels like it has only just begun!

So once the stock arrives, the printers do their magic, and I get a start on my sewing, comes photographing the clothes, both by themselves and with the kids. That is always a HUGE job, and working with little kiddies to get good photos, is HARD. They are crazy, do what they want, and don't like to get changed multiple times, we are doing a test shoot tomorrow, looking at locations and seeing how the clothes look in the space. Exciting, but it sounds way easier than the actual practice!

Heres a photo I found on http://www.smudgetikka.com/ I like the overall feel of winter and it makes me excited for a fresh start to Winter 2012!

PUNK BABY CLOTHING

In the few feeble attempts I have made at keeping a blog, I have promised every post to actually start using it, and alas it never happens. SO in the spirit of New Years Resolutions and all that, I have deleted all those old posts, so you can't see any evidence of my failed promises, and I am STARTING OVER! New Years, new beginnings and all that!

So welcome to Punk Baby Clothing!

Punk Baby was born around 2008 when there was a bit of a baby boom amongst my family and friends. I struggled big time trying to find anything funky and original to buy as gifts, so in the end just started making it myself. When I had my first son Jeremiah (Jem) in 2009 I started making alot of his clothing and would always get asked where I got it from. I started selling a few bits online on Trademe and it really got quite popular! It really just grew from there to the point where I have now quit my 'day job' and am a Punk Baby full time!

It is great to look back and see how far Punk Baby has come, from the days I used to hand paint tees to screen printing and now I have to make so many that I can finally have someone else screen print them for me, yipee - onwards and upwards!

So get yourself familar with Punk Baby's favourite haunts:
There is our Facebook page - which is the best place to keep up with the new release items, sales/specials and the most up to date info.
Our website which is currently undergoing a facelift
Twitter for news from the cutting room floor
Pinterest for all things delicious and punky

Thats alot of stuff to keep up with! No wonder I make promises I can't keep... but we shall see - wish me luck!
